The surprising fact that I discovered during my first year at the university was that quite a bignumber of students were solely motivated by the academic degree they would obtain upongraduation. Certainly, I would not go anywhere near so far as to doubt the social and economicvalue that a degree would bring to students in future. However, I deem it too nar row forstudents to maintain this kind of attitude towards their studies.
In my mind, university life contain s many enjoyable things, such as new ideas, good booksand brilliant people. And the pursuit of new ideas, the reading of good books and the camp usf riends hip r equire a student's complete devotion but will shine in his whole life.
Probably this tendency is rooted in the vocation-oriented and the career-oriented motivation. If a student discovers his vocation, he finds a life-time pleas ure in pursuing his profession. Bycontrast, a career-oriented student tends to take the academic certificate as an only means topreferment.
In conclusion, the university provides students with many golden opportunities, getting adegree being one of them. The challenge of new ideas, the leisure to read and the chance tomeet people are equally important. Anyway, a broad mind adds so much to the value of adegree.

Learning English in an English-speaking count ry has many advantages. It is, therefore, a goodidea to learn English in Britain or America. However, I believe it is not the only way to learn thelanguage .
To begin with, most students in non-English-speaking countries learn English in high schools oruniversities. Although their spoken English is not usually of a very high standard, theirknowledge of gra妹妹ar is often quite advanced. This is certainly useful when later they cometo an Englishspeaking country to perfect the language.
However, it is obviously advantageous to learn English in English-speaking countries where, every day, students will have ample chance to practise listening and speaking. In addition , students can experience the foreign culture, which greatly helps understand the language. This is especially true ifthey choose to live with an English or American family. Still, sincestudents are taught by native speakers, their reading and writing skills will improve as well .
As every coin has two sides, learning English at home also proves effective. At home studentswill have less stress and fewer problems in acco妹妹odation, expensive tuition and living costs .
In conclusion, it is preferable to study English in an English-speaking country, but areasonable level of English can be achieved at home, if a student is gifted and dedicated tostudy.

Different people hold different attitudes towards failure. Some people become discouraged andare even defeated by failure, while some other people learn lessons from failure and continuetheir efforts .
There is no denying that failure is a bad thing, but "Bad things can turn to good things." It alldepends on how we deal with it. If we are pessimistic, we will lose heart. If we are optimistic, we will see hope. I really have sympathy for those who, being badly hurt by failure, lose self-confidence and confidence in life. However, I have even greater admiration for those who, being stimulated by failure, go on straight forward to achieve success.
